The coaches of The Ultimate Fighter 13, which begins airing on Spike TV on March 30, will clash on June 11 from the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The bout was expected to take place on that date, but it was officially confirmed in the latest edition of the UFC.com series Ultimate Insider.
Dos Santos fights for the first time since his August win over Roy Nelson. He was initially slated to meet Cain Velasquez this spring for the UFC Heavyweight Championship, but an injury to Velasquez has him out of action until the fall. With the title fight not an option, Dos Santos opted to take a coaching slot opposite Lesnar and to meet him for the right to meet Velasquez later in the year.
Lesnar looks to get back to a rematch with Velasquez, who took the title from him in October with a first round TKO. It was only Lesnar's second career loss, but it was his most devastating.
The UFC 131 card is also expected to feature Shane Carwin in action, the UFC debut of Dave "PeeWee Herman" and a number of featherweight fights in Kenny Florian vs. Diego Nunes, Darren Elkins vs. Michihiro Omigawa and Dustin Poirier vs. Rani Yahya.
Penick's Analysis: This is as big of a fight as you'll see without a title on the line, and with a full season of buildup on The Ultimate Fighter, this is going to be a huge event for the UFC. For the fans in Vancouver, they've got one hell of a main event on their hands, and the rest of the card is filling out really nicely at this point. Lesnar-Dos Santos is extremely exciting, and I can't wait to see how this season of the show unfolds with these two as coaches.
